Abstract

This is an important chapter for information on one of the most important non-motor disturbances in Parkinson’s disease. Almost all patients with Idiopathic Parkinson disease have variable cognitive disturbance which can only be evaluated only through appropriately sensitive neuropsychological battery such as SCOPA-Cog. A patient with clinical feature of Parkinsonism and dementia may be suffering either of the following conditions such as advanced idiopathic Parkinson disease, diffuse lewy body disease, Alzheimer disease, progressive supranuclear palsy and vascular Parkinsonism. They need to be differentiated for prognostication and management. Clinical, investigational and neuropsychological evaluations are important for their demarcation, though only neuropathological investigation is the ultimate confirmatory modality. Diagnosis is equally important for rationalization of treatment.
