Basic to understanding of movement disorders, is sound knowledge on anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of basal ganglia. This will help in better appreciation of phenomenology of different movement disorders. Based on animal evidences and electrophysiological recording, basal ganglia model has been postulated to explain the hypokinetic and hyperkinetic disorders.
