This chapter has been written with a purpose to introduce the phenomenon of stereotypy. This is more common in psychiatric practice. A thorough knowledge on this subject helps in identification of this hyperkinetic movement disorders, differentiating this disorder from closely related other types of movement disorders and subsequent management. One of the genetic disorders presenting in early age with psychomotor regression known as Rett syndrome can be diagnosed through genetic testing recently.
