Abstract

Aging involves a gradual cumulative process of damage and deterioration of body system. Anaesthetists should have adequate knowledge regarding some aspects of aging, pathophysiology of organ aging, drug pharmacology in old age etc. to provide safe anaesthesia in elderly patients. A thorough preoperative assessment is essential and the conduct of anaesthesia should be meticulous and careful. Perioperative complications can occur, but these should be detected early and tackled immediately.
