Abstract

Pharmacogenetics is the study of genetic variation resulting in changes to metabolic pathways which gives rise to a differing response to an adverse effect or a therapeutic defect of a drug. The differing response may be due to polymorphism at single nucleotide polymorphism. Based on this mutation analysis the toxicity of the drugs can be assessed and effective medicines selected.
