Abstract

The Human Genome project (HGP) was coordinated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and was completed in 2003 and included a worldwide collaborative effort. The goals of the HGP included identification of the genes in human DNA estimated at 20–25 thousand, determination of the sequence of the genome, generation of databases of information allowing for data analysis and to address ethical and legal issues related to the HGP.
