Abstract

This chapter discusses various aspects of uterine rupture, scar dehiscence, uterine inversion. Uterine rupture is a catastrophic tearing opening of the uterus into the abdominal cavity. Scar dehiscence is subperitoneal separation of scar, with chorioamniotic membranes visible through the peritoneum of lower uterine segment. The fastest method is vertical incision below the umbilicus, a method that offers good exposure to explore the entire abdomen and is easily extended. In repair of uterus, the incision in the vesicouterine serosa that was made to mobilize the bladder is extended laterally and upwards through the anterior leaf of the broad ligament to reach the incised round ligament. In case of scarred uterus, various imaging by hysterography is used to determine the integrity of scar and assess the risk of intrapartum rupture or dehiscence.
