Abstract

This chapter discusses various aspects of cesarean section. This procedure includes skin incision, opening rectus sheath, stretching abdominal wall laterally, separating rectus sheath upwards, insertion of Doyen\'s retractor and identification of lower segment, incising uterovesical fold of peritoneum, and rupture of amniotic sac. it also includes transverse incision on lower uterine segment, finger stretching of uterine incision, delivery of the fetus, clamping the cord, delivery of placenta, and delivery of membranes. Wiping the uterine cavity, application of stay knot, use of single double needle polyglycone suture for uterine wound closure, suturing of first layer of uterine incision, continuous interlocking suture of uterine wound, completion of first layer suture, completion of second layer suture, inspection of adnexa, checking hemostasis in subcutaneous layer, subcuticular skin suture, and completing skin suture, are the procedures that completes a cesarean section. The classical cesarean section is a vertical incision into upper uterine segment and infrequently practiced in modern obstetrics. Complications of cesarean section include hemorrhage and injury to the bladder.
