Abstract

This chapter discusses various gynecology surgerical procedures of disorders in cervix. These include cervical biopsy and endocervical curettage, cervical conization, cervical incompetence-Mcdonald’s suture, Fothergill’s repair, and trachelorrhaphy. Cryosurgery is a form of treatment of dysplasia of the cervix by destroying the abnormal tissue by freezing it to extremely cold temperatures using probes. In this process, compressed gaseous nitrogen flows through the instrument which can be identified by a hissing noise, making the metal cold enough to freeze and destroy the tissue. Dilatation of cervix is done through dilatation of cervix immediately before the planned procedure which includes dilatation with Hegar’s dilators or dilatation with drugs like prostaglandins, mechanical objects like laminaria tents. The pap smear technique has a tremendous impact on reducing the number of deaths from cervical cancer. Pap smear can detect cells from all cancers of vagina, ovary, fallopian tube, colon, urinary bladder, melanomas, lymphomas.
