Abstract

This chapter discusses various intraoperative investigative tools used in pelvic surgeries. Computer aided tumor resection (CATS) in the pelvis, real-time textured 3D-models for medical applications, falloposcopy with coaxial catheter, endoluminal sonographic evaluation, and operative culdolaparoscopy, are some topics discussed in detail. An endoluminal ultrasound system using a 12. 5 or 20 MHz transducer housed in a 6. 2 French catheter is used intraureterally in patients being evaluated endoscopically for suspected tumors in the pelvis or ureter. A novel endoscopic peroral transgastric approach to the peritoneal cavity is also tested in a porcine model in acute and long-term survival experiments. Flexible culdoscopy is an excellent procedure for diagnostic endoscopy. It correlates well with office laparoscopy, requires less anesthesia, and is better tolerated by patients.
