Abstract

Fungal skin diseases represent a major component in the busy practice of dermatologists. This chapter provides a detailed account of the clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests, differential diagnosis and treatment of superficial fungal infections seen commonly in day to day practice like dermatophytes, tinea versicolor, and candidiasis with clinical photographs and photomicrographs and also brief notes on tinea nigra and piedra. The key features of selected deep fungal infections including mycetoma, chromoblastomycosis, rhinosporidiosis, subcutaneous zygomycosis, sporotrichosis, cryptococcosis and penicilliosis are summarized with clinical photographs.
