Abstract

A curriculum is a plan of action which incorporates the learning outcomes to be attained over a period of time by exposing the learner to various learning experiences. A curriculum is basically comprises four components that are objectives, i. e. what will the learner be able to do at the end of instructions, materials involving all learning resources like books, manuals etc., methods denoting the way the materials will be used, and assessment which helps to provide a feedback to the learner and the teacher and also helps to certify the attainment of stipulated proficiency. Various approaches such as subject-centered, learner centered, or problem solving approach can be used in curriculum planning process to attain the same learning outcomes. An easy and accepted way of curriculum planning is to follow the systems approach, which in effect means keeping the interdependence of various factors in mind. It means following the various steps including needs of the society, needs of the learners, learning objectives, selection criteria, choice of methods, development and trial, and assessment.
