Abstract

Adenocarcinomas account for 5–30% of all malignancies involving the cervix. Epidemiological studies carried out in 25 countries of America, Europe and Asia demonstrated a sustained growth of the percentage of adenocarcinoma cases from 4.6 % in 1961 to 11.4 % in 1991. Various classifications are in use. Cervical Glandular Intraepithelial Neoplasia is (CGIN) popularly used in UK. Location of the lesion whether high or low in the cervical canal is also important. Determination of the volume of the disease is more important than the depth of invasion. Morphological diagnosis is more difficult than squamous cell disease. Lymph node metastasis is twice as common. There are many types of glandular tumours. Cytological classification is in the Bethesda System. Role of Colposcopy is not clear and no characteristic lesions can be described. Concurrent Squamous and Columnar tumours exist. Cone Biopsy and Endocervical Curettage are used to confirm diagnosis. Hysteroscopy will enable correct staging.
