Abstract

Hydronephrosis reflects an aseptic dilatation of the pelvicalyceal system as a result of a functional or mechanical obstruction at Pelviureteric junction (PUJ) or somewhere distally. Bladder exstrophy is a congenital defect that is cha-racterised by malformation of the bladder and urethra, in which the bladder is essentially inside out and exposed on the outside of the abdomen through the defect below the umbilicus. It is important to understand the embryology and the factors responsible for testicular descent to decide the management of a case of cryptorchidism. The main crux of management in intersex disorders lies in the early diagnosis. This chapter deals with more common urological problems in children like hydronephrosis, undescended testis and phimosis. It also describes the complex problems like bladder exstrophy, epispadias and disorders of sexual development. The embryology, diagnosis, treatment and complications are discussed.
