Abstract

Most of the currently available models for antipsychotic agents are valid only to make predictions with respect to pharmacotherapy and show pharmacologic isomorphism. These models provide least insight into the processes underlying the disease. Animal models with face validity are based on symptom similarity and exhibit behavioral isomorphism like catatonia, stereotypy, impaired performance and social withdrawal. Catalepsy in rodents, amphetamine/apomorphine induced stereotypy, phencyclidine induced bizarre pattern of locomotor activity, conditioned avoidance reflex etc. fall into this category.
