Abstract

A major problem in the search for new antidepressant drugs is the lack of animal models that resemble depressive illness in humans and are selectively sensitive to simulate effective antidepressant treatments. Most of the classical screening methods are inadequate for detecting novel antidepressant drugs. Water wheel model, learned helplessness, isolation-induced hyperactivity, tail suspension etc are some of the methods.
