Abstract

Hepato-biliary-pancreatic nursing refers to the nursing care of the disorders of the liver and pancreas. Liver function is complex and liver dysfunction affects all body systems. For this reason the nurse must understand how the liver functions and must have expert clinical assessment and management skills to care for patients undergoing complex diagnostic and treatment procedures. The nurse must also understand technological advances in the management of liver disorders. Liver disorders are common and may results from virus, exposure to substances such as alcohol or tumors. This chapter discusses some important disorders related to liver, gall bladder and pancreas, i.e. Jaundice, Hepatitis, Cirrhosis of liver cholelithiasis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and Pancreatitis ct. Each disorder discussed with their etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, diagnostic evaluation, treatment and nursing management accompanied with nursing care plans and related procedures.
