Abstract

Cancer is a disease of the cell in which the normal mechanism of control of growth and proliferation are disturbed. If encompasses a broad range of disease of multiple causes that can arise in any cell of the body capable of evading regulatory control over proliferation and differentiation. Two major dysfunction present in the process of cancer are defective cellular proliferation and defective cellular differentiation. Cancer cell usually proliferate as the rate of normal cell but they respond differently than normal cell to the intracellular signals that regulate the state of dynamic equilibrium. They divide indiscriminately and haphazardly. It has been believed that the development of cancer is a rapid haphazard event. The natural history of cancer is an orderly process comprising several stages and accuracy over a period of time. These stages include initiation, promotion and progressions. Initiation is a mutation in the cells genetic structures resulting from an inherited mutative or following exposure to a chemical radiations or viral agent it is irreversible. Promotion in the second stage in the development of cancer, is characterized by the reversible proliferation of the altered cell progression is the final stage characterized by increased growth rate of tumor, increased invasiveness and spread of the cancer to a distant site. Metastasis is a multi-steps process beginning with the rapid growth of the primary tumor. Tumors can be classified according to anatomic site, histology (grading) and extent of disease (staging). The nurses play in important role in the prevention and detection of cancer by imparting public education at every available opportunity and partially to the high risk population and also playing and significant role in treatment of cancer includes surgical therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, management of clients with cancer. This chapter deals almost nursing management of cancer with nursing care plans.
