Abstract

Several groups of microorganism produce ready recognizable surgical soft tissue infection, e.g. streptococcus pyogenes is a virulent organism producing a spectrum of soft tissue infection. Staphylococcus aureus infections such as folliculitis or abscesses are characterized by thick purulent discharge. Clostridia produce clostridial myonecrosis only when ischaemic muscle is contaminated. Combined aerobic and anaerobic enteric organisms are most frequent offenders. Indication for emergency surgical exploration of any deep tissue infections. One of the most feared complications of diabetes is the loss of a leg or foot.
