Abstract

This chapter discusses role of hospitals in new millennium. During the middle ages the hospital could serve other functions, such as almshouse for the poor, hostel for pilgrims, or hospital school. Today\'s hospitals are hi-tech organizations, furnished with hi-tech gadgets, as soon as the patients enter the main gate of the hospital, there are modern sophisticated electronic devices for security check till he leaves the organization with electronic checkout system. The hospitals which used to be the centre of care of the sick and poor were being run by the philanthropic organizations or the governments. Based upon the prevalent health care delivery system and the IOP model of the health care delivery system, the following broad areas are identified for the public private partnership.
