Abstract

This chapter discusses emergency services department. Whenever there is a perceived threat to loss of life or limb is an emergency. Based upon perception, the emergency is declared by the patient and certified by the doctor. Casualty as defined by the Ministry of Health, London, means “a patient who comes to the hospital un-announced, with accidental injury and is seen and treated otherwise than at consultative session”. In planning of emergency services the patient load is very important factor. The emergency department should be located in the ground floor, with easy access for patients and ambulances. The treatment spaces are situated around a central point in which emergency department personnel work. It is mandatory to start the treatment as soon as the case comes; simultaneously the police should also be informed.
