This chapter discusses the central sterile supply department (CSSD). It is an important facility of a hospital. It receives, stores, processes, distributes and controls professional supplies and equipments (both sterile and non sterile) to all the user units of the hospital for care and safety of the patients. It should be ideally located in close proximity to the user units, i. e. OT, ICU, Wards, emergency and labor room for effectiveness and efficiency. “Ethylene oxide sterilizer” is defined as equipment which uses ethylene oxide as a biocide to destroy bacteria, viruses, fungus and other unwanted organisms. Dry heat sterilizer is effective mode of sterilization. It is equipment with electric resistors distributed inside the cabinet that is isolated with a panel for temperature control.
