This chapter discusses telemedicine. Telemedicine is essentially the combined use of both information technology and telecommunications to provide health services. The impact is also being felt in the health sector with many new applications of these technologies. Information can be stored and transmitted as either analogue or digital information. Analogue information uses a continuously varying signal. In video conferencing it is similar to telephonic conferencing; in addition to that the picture is also transmitted, so it is audiovisual. Cases can be diagnosed and report can be transmitted via FAX or e-mail to the referral centres and the expert opinion and advice can be obtained at a faster rate. “e-Health refers to the use of modern information and communication technologies to meet needs of citizens, patients, health care professionals, health care providers, as well as policy makers”.
