Abstract

Cleft lip usually involves upper lip always on one side of midline. It is due to defect in fusion of processus globularis with maxillary process. The cleft palate occurs in midline and is due to failure of fusion of palatal processes. This chapter describes embryology and anatomy of the lip and palate. The etiology, incidence, classification, associated problems and principles of surgical repair of cleft lip and palate are given.
