Abstract

Oxidation-reduction reactions are coupled chemical reactions in which one atom or molecule loses one or more electrons (oxidation) while another atom or molecule gains those electrons (reduction). NADH and FADH resulting from metabolic pathway can be used for reductive biosynthesis. Reducing potential of mitochondrial NADH is most often used to supply the energy for ATP synthesis by electron transport chain and then via oxidative phosphorylation.
