Abstract

Tuberculosis of elbow is a rare location approximately 2% of all case of osteoarticular tuberculosis. The infection may start in the olecranon, lower end of humerus, upper end of radius or synovial linings. In endemic areas diagnosis can be easily made on clinico-radiological picture. When in doubt diagnosis must be confirmed by the examination of the diseased tissue. Anti-TB drugs, rest to the elbow in 90 degree of flexion, and intermittent active exercises would give a healed status with useful range in functional arc. If a patient has healed with ankylosis in unacceptable position inverted-V excision arthroplasty would offer a useful function. Surgical technique or excisional arthroplasty, arthrodesis, and relevant surgical anatomy are described.
