Abstract

It is a rare location of disease; the incidence is about one percent of all osteoarticular tuberculosis. It is a disease of adults, and female to male ratio is 5:2. Women of child-bearing age and poor nutritional status are more frequently affected. Mortality was high before the availability of modern imaging modalities because diagnosis based upon conventional X-ray could be made only when the disease had reach an advanced stage. With availability of CT-scan and MRI the disease can be suspected at a very early stage. Non-tuberculous inflammatory conditions should be considered in differential diagnosis. In case of doubt tissue diagnosis is mandatory. With early diagnosis and multidrug therapy the disease would heal is vast majority.
