Abstract

Neurological complication is the most dreaded complication of spinal tuberculosis. The incidence in patients from a general hospital is about 20 percent. Paraplegia most commonly results in associated with tuberculous disease above the revel of lumbar one vertebra. There are many classification of TB paraplegia. Paraplegia associated with active disease has a better prognosis for neural recovery than those associated with healed disease. A symptom complex of “spinal tumor syndrome” is caused by a localized tuberculoma or a generalized granuloma. The conventional X-rays in such patients do not show any gross abnormality. Multidrug therapy and rest in bed would heal most of the early eases. Operative decompression would be needed in those who show deterioration or fail to show progressive neural recovery.
