Abstract

Steps of commonly performed operations for tuberculosis of spine are described. As most of the destruction takes place anteriorly the basic principle of operations is to perform debridement, debulking, and decompression with least disturbance to the un-affected segments of the vertebrae, thus maintaining adequate mechanical stability. Bone grafting procedures can be concomitantly performed to further add to stability, and to minimize kyphotic deformity. Indications and problems of instrumentations in spinal tuberculosis are discussed.
