Abstract

This chapter discusses role of PTK today. Example of regenerative wound healing after severe injury to the cornea is discussed. Diagnosis discusses iatrogenically produced refractive errors, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies; corneal scars, band keratopathy, pterygium, and high myopia. Most PTK treatments are done with the broad beam excimer lasers. Comparatively, much fewer treatments are done with by the flying spot excimer laser. The combination of LASIK and flying spot excimer laser gives an improved result in treating astigmatism after PK and high myopia. The polishing ability of the two systems is the same. Videokeratographically guided systems, custom ablation are improving.
