Abstract

Infective keratitis is a major cause of ocular morbidity and corneal blindness in the developing world. Those patients suffering from severe keratomycosis and not responding to topical and systemic antifungal drugs require emergency penetrating keratoplasty to eliminate infection and at times to save the integrity of eye. Intracameral and intra-corneal injections offer several advantages in the management of fungal keratitis. Injection provides maximum concentrations of the drug at desired site instantaneously. Intracameral and intracorneal injections provide rapid, safe, effective, convenient and economical option. Results of study indicate that intra-cameral and intra-corneal infections of amphotericin B may be considered an alternate option to surgical intervention in resistant keratomycosis.
