Abstract

Keraring intrastromal corneal ring segments are implantable precision devices for the correction of surface irregularities and reduction of refractive errors associated to keratoconus and other corneal ectasias. Unlike other intracorneal rings, Keraring was specially designed for the treatment of corneal ectatic disorders, providing greater and better corneal regularization and refractive effects. Keraring implantation accomplish the corneoplastique concept, which attempt to improve the patient’s optics, topography, visual acuity, and reduce or eliminate the refractive error in order to stabilize the cornea, avoiding or delaying the need for corneal transplantation. Focus is on advantages, indications, contraindications, mechanism of action, manual and IntraLase technique, nomograms, and postoperative care.
