Abstract

In this chapter we will briefly discuss the ongoing developments in the field of corneal transplantation that aim to increase the success of the surgery in addition to providing a better avenue for appropriate utilization of the existing resources. The main areas of focus for the development of corneal transplantation include: (i) Component surgery of the cornea, (ii) Development of artificial cornea, (iii) Novel surgical techniques, (iv) Cultured corneal endothelial cells.
