Abstract

Fungal infections of the eye are less common than bacterial and viral infections and are missed too often. Fungi are not normal flora of the eye; they are parasites which can not manufacture their own food. Their peculiarities have been enumerated along with various methods to visualise, identify and culture them. They have been arranged according to their characters, i.e. yeast and moulds. Various fungi of ocular importance have been enumerated and their importance outline. Rhinosporidium has been given all the attention, it deserves. The role of fungus in HIV and AIDS has been outlines.
