Abstract

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder manifested by immune-mediated platelet destruction and suppression of platelet production. Diagnosis and management of ITP requires experience and appropriate use of laboratory despite absence of a diagnostic test for ITP. In addition to established agents like corticosteroids, IVIg, anti D, newer agents like rituximab and thrombopoeitin analogues have had major impact on management of ITP.
