Abstract

Mitral stenosis shows straightening of left heart border due to prominent left atrial enlargement. Double shadow of right heart border may also be seen. Left main bronchus is raised up so that the normal carinal angle (<90%) is increased. Prominent left upper lobe vessels due to back pressure changes and even signs of pulmonary edema. Extrinsic indentation is seen on the contrast filled esophagus. High quality chest x-rays showing cardiomegaly in rheumatic mitral valve disease is shown and discussed.
