Abstract

In his chapter we discuss the relatively high incidence of nerve palsy following the injury. The radial nerve being the most commonly involved. The isolated radial palsy in closed fractures usually improves spontaneously and does not preclude the use of a brace. The cock-up splint is not necessary if the patient allows extension of the wrist at an early date; palsy following the application of the brace should not occur unless the surgeon has erroneously applied traction and manipulation to the extremity, in which case the prognosis is more guarded.
