Abstract

Gynecological disorders may affect the course of normal pregnancy and various medications used in the treatment of these disorders may also adversely affect the fetus. Conversely, pregnancy may worsen existing gynecological disorders such as genital prolapse or urinary incontinence. Accurate diagnosis and timely and appropriate treatment are required to optimize maternal and fetal outcome. Obstetrics and gynecology are closely inter-related disciplines. Disorders of the genital tract can complicate pregnancy and adversely affect its outcome. Conversely, anatomical, physio-logical and immunological changes in pregnancy can lead to modification of pre-existing gynecological pathology, as well as appearance of new pathology.
