Abstract

An enormous diversity of opinions exists with regard to the structure of vitreous. Variations in the structure are seen as age advances but histology comprises of a solid and fluid state, membranes, cells, collagen, fine fibrils and mucous. In vitritis, vasculitis, active chorioretinitis or masquerade syndromes where clinical signs are inexplicable a cytopathology done on vitreous specimen can be conclusive evidence .Bilateral amyloid deposition may occur in the retina and vitreous either as a part OD primary systemic heredofamilial process or in individuals. Degenerations of the vitreous, vitreous hemorrhage and vitreous amyloidosis can be confirmed by vitreous biopsy.
