Abstract

Rapid analysis of the specimen can be obtained by frozen sections and this is useful in identifying the type of ocular tumor .This technique is used to make a reliable identification of the pathological nature and extent of lesions within twenty minutes and facilitates establishing the presence of neoplasm provides staging and thus allows timely and appropriate intervention and management. The instrument used is a cryostat which is essentially a microtome inside a freezer. Special stains for fat and certain immunohistochemical studies can be performed on frozen sections.
