Abstract

The histopathological evaluation in uveitis is done in situations where diagnosis is difficult, distinction between benign and malignant lesion is not clear or where other ancillary tests are inconclusive and where therapeutic decisions will be made on the basis of cytological findings. Patients with masquerade syndromes, metastatic disease of the choroid, subretinal infiltrates, abscess and vasculitis are few such clinical situations that are commonly encountered. Specimens are obtained following biopsy of ocular tissue and subjected to staining and histopathologic and cytopathologic study. Pathologically two types of inflammation which may be non-granulomatous or granulomatous types are seen.
