Chromosomes, and therefore the genes located on them, a susceptible to alteration in their structure induced by harmful agents in the nature. These anomalies present either as micro-alteration in the chromosomes or as gross errors in the number of entire chromosome in the cell. These chromosomal anomalies are classified into several groups. Many of these chromosomal anomalies have been extensively studied. These anomalies reflect as several ‘syndromes’ affecting the phenotype of an individual. The traits of several of these ‘syndromes’ are inherited in an individual and can also be transmitted to offspring.
