Organic mental disorders are behavioral or psychological disorders associated with transient or permanent brain dysfunction. Common organic brain disorders include dementia, delirium and amnestic syndrome. Nursing care for such patients is most essential whether at home, or in hospital or in a day-care centre. The nurse must be trained to promote the patient’s intellectual abilities, independent skills and quality of life. To develop a basic understanding of these conditions, nursing interventions are presented in a simple and lucid style.
