Abstract

Diabetes-peripheral neuropathy, vitamin B12 deficiency paraneoplastic syndrome. Lambert-Eaton myasthenia syndrome. Inherited peripheral neuropathy, Riley day syndrome, porphyria, spinocerebellar degeneration. Parkinson’s disease autonomic dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease is common resulting in symptoms like salivation sweating, bladder and bowel dysfunction and orthostatic dizziness and these are thought to be due to central cause. Riley day syndrome. Hereditary autosomal recessive disorder. It affects people of Ashkenaji Jewish extraction. Gene identified as 1 KBKAP gene on the distal long arm of chromosome 9. Frequency is 1 in 3600 live births of Ashkenaji Jews, depressed pattelar reflexes absent papillae of tongue, absent skin response to scratch and Histamine injection relative insensitivity to pain and temperature sural nerve biopsy diminished myelinated and non myelinated axons in REM sleep. Sympathetic activities of the splanchnic and renal circulation is decreased and activity of the skeletal muscle is increased in NREM Sleep- slow phases of sleep, there is hypotension and bradycardia which become pronounced as this sleep phase progresses from stage I to stage IV. REM sleep is associated with large transient increases in blood pressure.
