Abstract

This chapter discusses argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT). Introduction explains the key concepts, mechanism of action, indication of ALT, contraindications, preoperative work up, preoperative preparation, gonioprism, laser parameters, placement of burn, ideal reaction, and number of burns, postoperative management, and complications of ALT. Diode laser cyclophotocoagulation is described. Cyclodestructive procedures, such as surgical excision of ciliary body, cyclodiathermy, cycloirradiation, cycloelectrolysis, cyclocryotherapy, ultrasound, microwave cyclodestruction, and cyclophotocoagulation are generally used for refractory glaucomas. Endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP) is a new technique to directly photocoagulate the ciliary body under endoscopic guidance. Newer endoscopic systems that incorporate a viewing fiberoptic as well as a laser fiberoptic are available, which permits the ciliary body to be visualized on a television screen. Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is discussed.
