Abstract

Postconceptional care follows preconceptional care— Periconceptional care. Preconception counseling and care is a form of preventive medicine that consists of three main components: risk assessment, health promotion and intervention. The age of the pregnant population and the number of pregnant women with obstetric and medical issues are increasing. The Prepregnancy visit may be the single most important health care visit when viewed in the context of its effect on pregnancy. Since the early 1990s, guidelines have recommended preconception care, and reviews of previous studies have assessed and docunted the evidence for specific interventions. Over the past 4 years, there has been renewed interest and a great emphasis on preconception health and healthcare as alternative and additional approaches to counter the persistent increasing incidence in adverse maternal and fetal pregnancy outcomes.
