Abstract

An obvious approach to reduce the chance of astigmatic shift would therefore be to shift to an incision that is small, away from the cornea either straight or frown shaped, multi-planar and one that can be safely left unsutured. Also, wounds with a square configuration are considered more anastigmatic. The corneal astigmatism is directly proportional to the cube of the length of the incision and inversely related to distance from the limbus. This is known as astigmatically neutral funnel, incisions made within which are astigmatically equivalent.
