Abstract

Fluidics is a principle where entire surgical procedure is performed under positive IOP. Pressure rise in the eye is achieved by connecting a BSS solution via the anterior chamber maintainer to the AC. This method reduces the chances of complications during surgery. The anterior chamber maintainer is a round or oval cannula connected by a silicone tube to the BSS bottle. Quality and outcome of SICS is controlled by fluid dynamics which is responsible for fluctuation in AC depth, turbulence of fluid IOP and fluid velocity. Advantages of manual aspiration in presence of an ACM over automatic irrigation aspiration includes low turbulence effect and constant IOP, easier management of a posterior capsule tear, prevention of bleeding, etc.
