Abstract

TASS is an acute, non-infections inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye following cataract and anterior segment surgery. Since its clinical spectrum mimics that of infections endophthalmitis very closely, therefore the onset of signs and symptoms, type of symptoms and response to therapy are all important factors in differentiating TASS from the latter. Same factors responsible for it may be bacterial endotoxin residues, viscoelastic residues, ethylene oxide gas residue left on intraocular lenses and phacoemulsification hand pieces, etc. Treatment comprises of topical and oral steroids, antibiotics and cycloplegics followed by close monitoring for several days.
