Abstract

The visual path extends from the retina to the visual cortex. It is responsible for transmitting visual impulses from the retina to the visual cortex, besides visual fibers, the fibers responsible for light reflex, near reflex and convergence reflexes also traverse part of this path. The lesions of visual pathway cause disorders that may be visual—pupillary or field changes in various combinations. The visual deficiencies depend mostly on involvement of macular fibers. Pupillary changes are seen only in pregeniculate lesions while the field changes are produced by lesions any where between optic nerve and visual cortex.
